AIA | NCARB | Project Architect
Partner
Cody Grooms is a Partner and licensed Architect at GAE Architecture + Design, where he blends thoughtful design, collaborative leadership, and a deep commitment to community. A native East Tennessean, Cody believes architecture should serve people and places to create environments that are authentic, meaningful, and lasting.
Throughout his career, Cody has led the design and delivery of projects across a wide range of scopes and scales, with a focus on education, healthcare, civic, and community-centered work. He also plays a key role in firm strategy, mentorship, and long-term growth, helping guide the firm’s culture and future direction.
Cody earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee, where he was an active member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band and Army ROTC. Those experiences continue to shape his values of teamwork, service, leadership and civic involvement.
Beyond the office, Cody is deeply engaged in nonprofit and community leadership. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for Family Promise of Knoxville. He is also a member of the Pride of the Southland Alumni Band Council, the AIA East Tennessee Regional Affairs Committee, Knoxville Pipes & Drums, and is an alumnus of Leadership Knoxville’s Intro to Knox program.
When he’s not working, Cody enjoys traveling, time outdoors, cooking, live music, thrifting, and, of course, cheering on the Vols.
