National Fitness Centers

GAE Architecture + Design partnered with National Fitness Center across multiple locations, developing large-scale health and fitness facilities tailored to their communities while reinforcing a consistent brand identity.
Each project reflects a shared commitment to wellness, movement, and accessibility, with design solutions adapted to the site, context, and operational needs of each location.
The Maryville facility transformed an existing grocery store within a shopping center into a spacious health club. Building on the success of earlier locations, the design expanded the most effective program elements while adapting them to the constraints of the existing structure.
The building was carefully integrated into the surrounding Maryville context and designed to comply with newly adopted zoning requirements. Amenities include a junior Olympic pool, the area’s first aerobics pool, and an expanded childcare area, making the facility a prominent fitness destination for the community.
The Oak Ridge health & fitness center offers a full range of amenities, including a lap pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, cardio theater, yoga room, juice bar, and multiple training areas.
The design draws from Greek architectural influences requested by the owner, softened to blend into the Oak Ridge setting. A rotunda addresses the street-facing entrance, while the rear pool wall was angled to screen the western sun.
A two-story entry space features an indoor running track that cuts through the open volume, reinforcing movement throughout the building. Dedicated senior fitness areas were also included to better serve the local population.
This National Fitness location became the leading health club in Oak Ridge.
